The technology and fashion industry have witnessed lots of change over the years of growing together.
Comparison between the past and present
The 70s boom box brought convenient excitement to its users as they could carry it anywhere while they listened to their favorite tunes. Into the 80s the songs were added famous movie story lines which added popularity of owning a boom box. Moving forward into the 90s, people acquired Walkman’s that had a more personal music experience. Ten years later, the iPod came in with a much smaller experience. The competition in popularity of Fashion is what brings about the growth of Technology.
Fashion designers take pride in coming up with what delivers, and they find this possibility in new technology. Anouk Wipprecht is a Dutch fashion designer who combines fashion and technology. In one of her speech utterances, she said that technology is a place of experiment meaning that when you dig deeper into technology, it rewards you with undiscovered fashion. Anouk Wipprecht is famous for her Pseudomorphs, the self-painting dress, and drink-making dress, the DareDroid.
Looking towards the future
Other kinds of fashion grow via technology in a way to protect us from bodily harm. Lots of people don’t find wearing a helmet fashionable, but Terese Alstin and Anna Haupt made a different type of bike helmet which resembled a necklace. The stylish looking necklace is an airbag collar that pops up and prevents the cyclist from injuring their head.
Firefighters too enjoy smart technology via their Frontline Gloves invented by Kevin Cannon and Ashwin Rajan. These gloves allow the firefighters to communicate via simple visible hand gestures. Recycled materials are also used to make jackets and long gowns from inner tubes and radiator respectively.
The symbiotic relationship between technology and fashion can also be used to harvest energy to power small gadgets like watches, mp3 players, and mobile phones. Technology traps energy via a newly invented clothing when one is in motion.
Technology and fashion work together
Most of the times technology needs style to gain popularity in the market. For example, wearing glasses had little acceptance till recently Google Glass came about and Diane Von Furstenberg a top fashion designer made his models wear them while on the catwalk. The anxiety of the future lies in what both these industries have to learn from each other.
